Jonathan Herrera

I’m a Rio Grande Valley native now serving clients across Texas from my principal office in Houston’s East Downtown (EaDo).

My path to this profession was not traditional. The son of Mexican immigrants, I’m a first-generation high school graduate, college graduate, business owner, and attorney. I was raised in a family where hard work and perseverance came first, with the hope that formal opportunities would follow. Those values guide my work today.

Before becoming an attorney, I worked for over a decade in the insurance claims industry representing carriers and third-party administrators, collaborating directly with coverage and defense counsel on high-exposure, litigated matters nationwide. During that time, I founded and built JH Claims LLC, an independent adjusting firm that grew from a solo operation into a multi-state claims handling business with six employees. The adjusting firm managed complex casualty and property matters involving catastrophic injuries, construction defects, trucking and industrial accidents, general liability claims, and commercial and residential property losses.

Prior to starting my law firm, I practiced with Rymer, Echols, and Nelson-Archer, a premier insurance defense and coverage firm in Houston, Texas. I defended insureds in liability matters, prepared coverage opinions, and worked closely with carriers on complex coverage disputes. I actively litigated cases and gained trial experience, refining my ability to evaluate risk and determine when resolution, litigation, or trial was the most effective course.

My professional background provides a unique perspective. I understand claims evaluation, coverage decision-making, and insurer risk assessment from initial investigation through trial. This allows me to counsel clients effectively, litigate strategically, and prepare cases with clear insight into how carriers and opposing counsel approach matters.
